Post by HarryI am new to the 2 cycle scooter world.
I have a 2004 Vespa ET2.
Concerning the mixing of oil and gas. This scooter has a gas tank that
holds 2.4 gallons and an oil tank that hold about a quart.
There are several kinds of 2 cycle oil. I did not get a manual with the
Vespa - but that is another story.
What kind of 2 cycle oil do I use in the Vespa? Do I use the same kind
of 2 cycle oil as I mix for my chain saw - yard blower - and weed
wacker? Those appliances say to mix it 50:1.
I just came back from the auto store and they only had one kind of 2
cycle oil.
I know there are a lot of 2 cycle experts on this group. Please tell me
what kind of oil to buy and where can I get it?
Harry
I agree with Joe 100%. Don't use two-cycle engine oil intended for
water-cooled engines. Those are marked TC-W3 or W2 and are only good for
break-in, and then only when run at very concentrated ratios in a gas
premix. Instead use a semi synthetic of fully synthetic intended
specifically for air-cooled engines. They will be marked JASO FC or FD,
and also ISO-L-EGC or EGD. There are some air-cooled oils marked just
API TC with out any other rating. These are OK but still inferior. I use
Yamalube 2S because its the best value quality oil for me. There are
better oils but the cost a crap load.
As far as mix ratio, that's an easy one. You don't have to premix
because your bike has autolube injection. Just pour the oil straight
into the oil tank without diluting. The gas never needs to have oil
added to it except when the bike is brand new.
Heres a list I created on oils-
