Hello,
I am new to this group and have not started scootering yet! I am hoping
that you might be willing to share some advice on which scooter would be
best for my needs.

I am going tonight to look at scooters for the first time but have been
doing some comparison shopping online. Both my husband and myself will
be using the scooter and he tops out at 6'1" and 200lbs. We will be
only using it for driving around our very populated town in 25 mph zones
so I'm thinking that a 49cc should do the trick. We will be using it
just for trips to the local train station or running errands - distances
no greater than 2-3 miles at most. We will not need a scooter that can
hold two people at once.

I am drawn to the following models of scooter and am wondering whether
anyone has any experience or opinions about them:

Yamaha C3 - I am most drawn to this one because of the underseat storage

Yamaha Vino Classic

Honda Metropolitan

Thank you in advance for any advice you can give! :-)

The offical weight limit of a C3 is 187 pounds, but I got one and
haven't had that be an issue.

This is my personal choice. I was picking between the ones on your
list minus the metro which I already own and in its place was a Ruckus.

Yamaha Vino Classic
Can't say that this one got very good reviews.

Honda Metropolitan
As mentioned I own two. Can't recomend it even for the 25 limit you
mentioned because it can take a while for it to warm up so that it
takes a while to even get to 25.

Forgot to mention one thing.

You mentioned trips to the train station. The boot of the C3 is large
but not deep. You can fit a half helmet in it but a full size helmet
won't fit. If you go with this option you will have to carry the
helmet with you if it is a full size one. Small price to pay for a
great scooter. You would have the same issue on the Ruckus and
depending on the helmet maybe the Metro as well.

I'll comment on the Vino Classic, which I own. I have over 6000 miles
on it mainly running it at 35-40mph for extended periods...like a 23
mile commute to work very often.
Easy to do free modifications for increased power and speed.
You can fit a full face helmet under the seat, or a gallon of milk,
or two bags of groceries, plus you have a rack on the back for other
stuff.

In 6000 miles I have replaced the rear tire and the spark plug, done
regular maintenance. (air filter, lube cables, adjust brakes, ect) No
problems at all. In fact, I still have the original battery and it's
an '02.

Tons of info @ provoscooter.com.

Hi Guys!
Thank you so much for your responses and advice!

I made my decision and my purchase: an adorable blue 2007 Yamaha C3!

It was a tough (virtual) decision comparing them online and I had been
leaning toward the C3 based on reviews and dimensions (because of the
storage and also because both my husband and myself are tall) but I had
wanted to compare them in person as well. I tested a friend's Metro and
found that it seemed a little small for me so I thought it would be too
small for my husband - although it was lot of fun and very stylish. I
thought that the Vino might be a similarly tight fit. I guess it's
really true that scootering is gaining popularity due to elevated gas
prices because every shop I called in my area was out of both the Metro
and the Vino and only two shops had only one C3 left each.

However, as soon as I saw the C3 in person, I was in love - and it fit
each of us perfectly. I was also very happy to find the 2007, which
meant that I paid a little bit less than I had set aside.

The scooter will be delivered this weekend and I can't wait to get out
there!

Thanks again for your input and advice! :-)

Didn't think about that. Good point. I am 6'2" and the metro
doesn't leave much for leg room. The C3 on the other hand feels like
a RoadMaster with more leg room than one really needs but is happy to
have.

Sales in most of the country are up 400%. I had to wait a week for
mine to come in and now the same delership is selling 20 a week when
they used to sell less than 10 in a month.
